REVIEW: Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

If you follow any of the Innocent Illusion social media accounts you’d already know that recently I was invited into the Urban Decay counter in Debenhams in Galway to hear about their current product range & the new products that will be released on the market soon.

I meet the lovely Anne and we grabbed a coffee while she showed & explained all the products to me. After an hour or so of playing & learning some helpful tips & tricks, I was treated to a mini-makeover & left with a very generous goodie bag.

I was super excited as the only Urban Decay products I have previously owned were the Naked eyeshadow palettes (like everyone else) and the 24/7 eyeliner pencils.

Now my review of product #1- Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation.

It seems like nowadays every company is creating their own ‘HD Foundation’. Why? To withstand today’s high definition cameras & Urban Decays Naked Skin foundation is no exception.

What Urban Decay says:

“Coverage without compromise. Our weightless formula blurs imperfections for a flawless finish that feels invisible, but looks professionally retouched.

Naked Skin is a buildable formula that allows you to customize your look. From light to full coverage, it feels like wearing nothing at all, yet transforms complexions. Skin looks natural, illuminated and bright: like the beautiful skin you were born with.

State-of-the-art formula includes:

  • Matrixyl 3000: Restores & maintains youthful appearance
  • Litchiderm: Produces a more radiant complexion, protects from hydration, oxidative stress & accelerated aging resulting in a more radiant complexion.
  • Green Tea & Vitamin E: Anti-oxidants nuetralise free radicals & promote collagen production for smooth & supple skin.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate: Holds & attracts water for optimal hydration, circulation and nutrient absorption for smooth, soft skin.
  • Light- Diffusing Spheres: Provide a visible reduction in the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles for an ultra definition finish.”

Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation comes in a wonderful range of 18 colors from a porcelain ‘0.5’ to a deep bronzed ’12’. Each shade ending in a “.0” runs warm or yellow-based undertone, while those ending in “.5” are cool or pink-based, so there shouldn’t be any issue finding the right colour for you!

I was in shock to find out I was not the lightest shade shade in this range but instead a ‘1.0’. I normally have difficulty getting shades to match my stupidly pale Irish skin and find myself mixing 2 or even 3 different foundations to get a match but luckily ‘1.0’ matches perfectly. You can only imagine how happy I was to discover this.

So, am I a fan?

Hell YES. It was a great start having a shade that matched my skin perfectly and after wearing it for only a few days I was in love. It is so unbelievably light-weight for the amount of coverage you get! It literally doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any foundation.

As someone who wants coverage but hates the cakey look, this foundation just worked magic. It also has great staying power and NEVER dries out. I don’t think I’ve ever used a foundation that leaves my skin feeling so refreshed. I think this is because the texture is VERY liquid-y, helping you achieve a light/medium, build-able coverage with a lovely satin finish.

The formula is also oil-free, paraben-free, and fragrance-free, which are all major positives. It doesn’t contain SPF, which can be a positive or negative attribute depending on what you want out of your foundation. There’s nothing worse than your face looking paler than the rest of you in pictures, but you also need to be conscious of sun damage and skin care! I simply wear primer with SPF in it when I wear this foundation to protect me from the hot Canadian sun.

An interesting feature: the bottle contains mixing balls inside which you can actually hear when you shake the bottle as recommended.

If you want to purchase and cannot make it to a UD counter, there’s a very convienient  Switch your Foundation page on the UD website where you can input your current foundation whether it be MAC, Lancome, Bobbi Brown etc. and it will tell you the most suitable shade for you!

It can be purchased from UrbanDecay.com, Sephora.com or Debenhams (Ireland & the UK). $39 USD/ $45 CAD/ €34/ £27

I really couldn’t recommend it more! It’s the only foundation I brought with me to Canada this time & I will be ordering a new bottle soon!
Stay beautiful,
