Brand v Bargain- Mac Foundations

Once I announced the new feature Innocent Illusion Makeup Artistry will be doing, I received instant requests and was never more delighted :)

Rachel, from Galway Ireland was the very first one to get there with her request;

What’s the high street alternative for all of the MAC foundations?

Not much investigation was needed for this request as I myself used to be a big fan of the MAC foundation range until I became a poor student!

Brand: MAC Studio Fix Fluid
I used to think this product was the bees knees. But even the lightest colour MAC provided was not light enough for my pasty white Irish skin and it almost had a yellowish tone to it (I will always have those terrible jaundice looking pictures).
It did however provide great build-able coverage and therefore a flawless matte finish.
Although I never had the problem, my research has shown that a lot of people break out from using MAC’s liquid foundation. Many award winning Makeup Artists warn newbies like myself to not use it as a staple piece in your train case.

It currently retails at $35 Canadian + tax, and €35.00 in Ireland.

Bargain: Revlon ColorStay Makeup with Soft flex

The cheaper alternative offers the exact same build-able coverage and matte finish as it’s more expensive counterpart.
It not only comes in a fantastic variety of shades (my paler than pale skin included), but it also comes in different formulas for certain skin types; combination/oily OR dry/normal skin.
It lasts for up to 16 hours.
I have been a big fan for awhile now.

It is $12 Canadian + tax, and €18 in Ireland. (Get it in Boots & get an extra 10% off with your Student Travel Card)

Brand: MAC Mineralize Foundation
A lightweight formula that provides a light to medium coverage with a dewy or satin finish and day long hydration. SPF 15.

It can be purchased in Canada for $33 + tax and €26.50 in Ireland.

Bargain: L’oreal True Match Foundation
Provides a lightweight texture with light to medium coverage with a satin finish. The SPF 17 is a plus (2 more than MAC), and it lasts all day long. With 33 different shades, it is easy to find your perfect colour-match.

Only $11 Canadian + tax and in or around €12 in Ireland.
Rachel, darling, I hope that helps.

If it was the compact foundations you were looking for let me know and I’ll find an alternative to that for you too :)
